Open Question: Help w/ teacher situation? (Teachers, please?)?

Okay so I have this teacher that I really like and admire and I really want to be on friendly terms with her (she said she was close to a few students last year and I really want to have a good student-teacher bond with her). Since it’s the holidays, I gave her a starbucks gift card and a personal note on Thursday. Today (friday) she was in a good mood and she hugged everyone when they gave her presents. When I was cleaning up my lab station she came over and said, “I need a hug from you,” and then said thanks for the gift and everything. Well, it was a weird situation because she is a really sweet person but not touchy-feely at all….usually very on task and all-business; gets disappointed when we get low test scores (not your TYPICAL “nice” teacher – but that is why I think she’s awesome) (I’m guessing she was in a good mood because of the holidays)…and I am sort of awkward about touchy-feely things…so I just kind of gave a quick one-armed hug.
Later my mom went to say hi to her and happy holidays (she has not met her before) and my teacher said basically that I’m doing really well, and then she told my mom that she felt like she had made me feel awkward by hugging me. I felt really bad when I heard this because really she is my favorite teacher and I really want to be friends with her (in the student-teacher professional way of course). I am just awkward with the hugs and that stuff. It’s nothing personal! How can I let her know that I really like her and the class?
