Open Question: Why is my heater blowing warm, not hot air?

My heat doesn’t seem to be as hot as it was earlier in the season. Are there some things I could check first before calling a serviceman out? I really can’t afford the $90 service call fee for something simple that I could have done myself. I am on a fixed income.
