Open Question: Should the PS3 fan turn on as soon as the PS3 does?

Just wondering, because I recently reflowed the board to get rid of YLOD (success) but the fan isn’t turning on with the system. To be honest, I’m not sure if it should or not but I’m not leaving it on to check at the risk of frying the CPU/GPU. Still, I’d really rather not peel it apart again to check the connection if it’s no big deal.
